An important part of the Cathedral’s role in serving the Island is to make music accessible to the wider community. It’s through our MUSIC OUTREACH programme that we do this.
The importance of this work is reflected in the fact that our Organ Scholar Chris Beaumont spends time each week with the choir at Peel Clothworkers’ School in term time.
Mr Beaumont is also currently engaged in visiting five Primary schools each week, teaching music literacy through the medium of singing. The current project operates for 3 months and besides developing musical literacy, creating opportunity for children participating in music, and contributing towards each school’s curriculum for music; at the end of the 3 months around 170 children will gather in the Cathedral to take part in a BIG SING which will focus on organ and brass arrangement of favourite traditional hymns.
This important work has been made possible through funding from the St German’s Cathedral Foundation for Music and the Arts; the Friends of MAF; and the Rushen and Western Mann Rotary Club.
