Christmas Services at the Cathedral
Sunday 2nd December at 3.30pm Advent Service of Light. The service begins with a candle-lit procession of light, and the Cathedral Choristers will provide the music. A gentle start to the weeks of preparation for the celebration of Christmas.
Sunday 9th December at 3.30pm Feast of St Nicholas. The special service to celebrate the Feast of St Nicholas will also see the creation of a second bishop – but they will serve for only 22 days! As Chorister Bishop, they will lead the prayers, distribute presents to the children and bless the congregation.
Sunday 16th December at 3pm Festival of Lessons and Carols. We invite you to share with us this traditional and much-loved Christmas celebration. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings, interspersed with the singing of your favourite Christmas carols, and some uplifting choir pieces.
Christmas Eve at 5pm - Our Crib and Christingle service is relaxed and family-friendly - perfect for all ages - even for very young children. There will be a traditional nativity within the service - children are most welcome to come in costume and simply join in - you can't have too many angels, shepherds and kings! Stars and sheep are welcome too!
Christmas Eve at 11.30pm Traditional Midnight Mass with Bishop Peter. Midnight Mass is the first Mass of Christmas Day with special readings not found in the other Masses later in the day. Our celebration in the Cathedral will include communion (Eucharist) and the singing of much-loved carols. Bishop Peter will be presiding and preaching.
Christmas Day Eucharist with Bishop Peter. Come and join us on Christmas morning for a joyful celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ! We'll be marking this great feast with a service which will appeal to all ages, including a Christmas Eucharist (Communion), Bishop Peter will be presiding and preaching, and the chance to sing some of your favourite carols.
