This year, ‘Friends of Cathedral Music’ celebrate 60 years, and also the launch of their ‘Diamond Fund’ for Choristers. The aim of the fund is to raise £10 million to secure Choral Music in Cathedrals of the British Isles for the future.  A special celebration service is being held at St Paul’s Cathedral London, on Wednesday 27th April.  Each Cathedral has been invited to send one chorister to join with the St Paul’s Cathedral Choir for this occasion -no fewer than 62 Cathedrals, Abbeys and Collegiate Foundations will be represented at the service! The music to be sung includes all the ‘big classics’ of church music like Parry’s I was Glad, Handel’s Zadok the Priest, plus a new commission.  Cathedral Isle of Man Director of Music, Dr Peter Litman has chosen chorister Mackenzie Brown to represent the island at this service. Mackenzie who first joined the Cathedral choristers in 2012 is now 12 years old.  He attends Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel, and is currently a singing student of Abi Ballantyne.  Mackenzie was awarded the ‘Kirkpatrick Choristership’ at Cathedral Isle of Man in 2012.  Dr Litman described the opportunity as both exciting and unique for Mackenzie, who will, for one day have the opportunity to join and sing alongside both the St Paul’s Cathedral Choir and other professional choristers from the large Cathedrals of the UK.  Mackenzie will be writing a live video blog during his rehearsals and service at St Paul’s Cathedral which will be available on the Cathedral website.  The 19 Cathedral Choristers sing every week at the Cathedral in Peel, and further details can be found at the Cathedral’s website www.cathedral.im
