The Cathedrals Mission strapline has three key words, with Worship at the heart of what we do.

The Cathedral is a member of ‘Inclusive Church’ and as such celebrates and affirms every person as uniquely created in the image of God.

We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality.

We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.

Safeguarding

The Cathedral aims to be a safe environment for all and compliant with the guidance on safeguarding issued by the House of Bishops of the Church of England and is a member of ‘Inclusive Church’.

The Cathedral (along with the Diocese) will have a Safeguarding Audit in September 2026. There are five standards of Safeguarding in the C of E that fall under the following headings:

  1. Culture, Leadership and Capacity

  2. Prevention

  3. Recognising, Assessing and Managing Risk

  4. Victims and Survivors

  5. Learning, Supervision and Support
