Who’s Who?

The Very Revd. Nigel P. Godfrey MBE

Dean of St German’s Cathedral

Born on the Isle of Man and from a farming family, following a career in town planning and then in the priesthood in London before moving to the Cathedral in the Isle of Man. He has been Dean of the Cathedral since 2011, when the roles of Bishop and Dean were spilt.

As Dean, Nigel is the leader of St German’s Cathedral.

Dr Peter Litman

Director of Music and Organist

Peter Litman was organ scholar at Christ Church College, Canterbury before moving on to receive postgraduate degrees in choral direction and music education at the University of Surrey and a doctorate from the Central School of Religion, in London.

He holds both FLCM and LTCL diplomas in organ performance, is an Honorary Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians, and in 2017 was awarded the prestigious Honorary Associate diploma of the Royal School of Church Music.

As director of music, Peter provides music for worship, trains the choristers, and works with the rest of the team to run the day-to-day life of the Cathedral.

Dr Matthew Warren

Administrator

A composer, musical director and environmental social entrepreneur, Matthew is interested in the role creativity and innovation can play in all communities. He received his PhD in sociology and music from Durham University in 2023 and went on to found the Manx social enterprise, Earthscope Isle of Man.

As administrator, Matthew is the central point of contact for the Cathedral’s day-to-day operations and heads up the development of central services at the Cathedral.
